Back in the late 70's I studied gilding in London. My reason for doing so was to add that skill to my repertoire of picture framing skills, with a view to offering that option when I opened a framing shop back in America. It was also about this time that I really began to appreciate and enjoy the work of the Late Medieval and Early Renaissance Italians as well as the Flemish Artists. I began to think of working in Egg Tempera combined with Gold Leaf work, in a contemporary yet traditional fashion. I never did open that framing workshop in America, nor to the Egg Tempera and Gold work. My path led me to Cornwall and to refining my Watercolour technique over the next 23 years instead; but if I had gone forward with that craft I hope I would have achieved the beauty, skill & refinement found in the work of Fred Wessel, whose lovely work may be found here: http://fredwessel.com/
